Feasibility, consultancy and arbitration services

Decades of desk and field research, laboratory investigations and practical tests and observations during actual dredging and mining operations have given MTI a unique knowledge of dredging and mining methods, dredging processes and separation and classification techniques.

Dredging processes like hydraulic transport of soil, disintegration of soil, loading and unloading have been and are studied and analysed to great extents and depths. As a result we are able to provide our clients with:

Feasibility studies

MTI provides in-depth studies regarding the feasibility of both large and small-scale projects with regard to dredgeability, the
necessary dredging technology, treatment and storage of soil, and
in general the overall viability of the project in question.

Dredging consultancy

MTI can provide assistance in all matters concerning the dredging process. These include :

•   Selection of the most suitable dredging methods and
     dredging equipment under given circumstances.

•  Analysis of local circumstances and their influence on the
output of the dredge. For example by observations made
during a site visit, by the analysis of geo-mechanical reports,
by performing additional laboratory soil tests, and by the
analysis of the influence of local waves and currents.

•  Calculation of the output of a dredger under given conditions.

•  Trouble-shooting in the case that a dredger does not meet its
expected output. This may result in a modification of
    important systems or components.

•  Exploitation cost analysis.

For a quick consult regarding dredging problems for which an extensive study is not required, our DAS (Dredging Advisory Services) group can support you. This small group of highly skilled and experienced consultants also supports very frequently our parent company IHC Holland in order to optimize the dredging capability of their dredger designs. This is done to achieve the lowest cost per m3 dredged material. Their expertise has been built up through practice and through their earlier involvement in research and development.

Arbitration services

A logical consequence of the theoretical and practical knowledge base described here is our capacity for providing advice and assistance in matters concerning arbitration.

Dredge Mining consultancy

Far reaching involvement and co-operation with companies in the industry in both mining processes and mining techniques has allowed us to build up extensive knowledge base. This base is used to:

  •     Advise on optimal mining methods and on the treatment of
        the mined material.

  •    The selection of dredging methods to reduce harm to the
environment and the treatment of contaminated soil.

Environmental consultancy

The importance of proper response to the environment has
increased strongly over recent years. For clients faced with
environmentally sensitive assignments MTI has extensive
knowledge and experience in the fields of:

  • Equipment to combat oil pollution in seawater.
  • Dredging of contaminated soil.
  • Environmental criteria in the design of dredging equipment.
  • Storage of contaminated soil.
  • Cleaning of contaminated soil.
  • Development of new systems and techniques.
