Title: Mining Marine Phosphates Client: Ocean Phosphates Consortium Pty (Namibia) A technical and economical study into applicable dredging technologies and capabilities, suitable for deepwater dredge mining of phosphorites offshore Namibia. Several dredging scenarios for mining at a depth of 270 m and large transport distance (1350 nm) were identified and analyzed. For the most feasible scenarios an economical analysis was carried out. |

Title: Experimental study into the mining of coarse sand by undercutting of a fine sand layer Client: fa. Zeldenrust An experimental study into different methods for the undercutting of fine sand by means of a plain suction dredger and the application of in-situ separation of sand particles through fluidisation. Experiments in the laboratory have been carried out to gain a qualitative insight into the in-situ separation of sand particles for different extraction methods. Finally a conceptual design of the excavation tool has been developed. |

Title: Feasibility study into applicable dredging technologies and capabilities, suitable for deep- water dredge mining of diamonds Client: De Beers Marine Technical and economical feasibility study into the application of modern dredging techniques for the offshore mining of diamonds and into the removal of overburden of offshore diamond deposits by means of dredging. |
1999/2000 |
Title: Dredgeability study for a dredge mining project Client: Southern Era Resources Evaluation and dredgeability study for a diamond deposit in Southern Africa. Several large batches of core samples were tested on dredgeability to assess possibilities. Based on this sample testing and further evaluation of the project constrains, several scenarios for possible dredge operations were analysed. This also included the directly connected pre-processing unit. The dredgeability study is used completely as an add on to the feasibility report for the envisaged dredge mining operation. |

Title: Framework for the set-up of a Research and Engineering Research Centre
Client: PT Timah This study aimed at the set-up of an Offshore Research and Engineering Centre for PT Timah - Indonesia. First a site visit to evaluate possibilities for modernisation of an offshore tin mining operation (dredging and processing) was carried out. This was followed by a set-up of a frame work for the set-up of the Centre, evaluation of objectives, required organisation, first planning of the establishment and analysis of the required research and engineering topics to be carried out by the envisaged organisation. Balancing requirements, resources and time frames led to a budget indication for initial investment and operating costs for the first 5 years. |

Title: Pre-feasibility study for a dredge mining gold operation Client: Alberto Velaochaga S.A. Peru Pre-feasibility study for a large alluvial (dredge) mining project in Peru. Besides a site visit, the study focused on the set up of a possible mine plan, budget estimations and indicative cash flow analysis. |
1998 |
Title: Consultancy for a large dredge mining gold operation Client: Mineros d'Antioqua Evaluation of a large alluvial gold dredge mining & processing operation in Colombia. The study focused on the dredge mining operation in general and different processing lay-outs in particular. |
1998 |
Title: Preliminary dredging investigation for Diavik Diamond Mines Client: Diavik Diamond Mines The study gives details on a number of dredging related subjects for the Diavik Diamond Mines project, mainly consisting of a desk study to evaluate available geotechnical information and dredging related project constraints. Laboratory testing on rock and sediment samples has been performed to assess dredgeability and evaluate possible dredging methods. A short specification and general arrangement of a suitable dredging tool is given. |

Title: Feasibility study to select the most feasible dredging system to dredge phosphorite sands along the coast of the U.S.A. Client: Development Planning and Research Associates, U.S.A. For an offshore deposit of phosphorite sands along the North Carolina coast, MTI produced a study as part of the overall feasibility study on the dredging possibilities of the deposit. Suitable equipment has been identified. Investment and operating costs calculations for the dredging operation have been carried out. |
